Infrastructure: The benefits for construction companies
Morocco has never before planned so many major infrastructure projects simultaneously: high-speed rail, desalination plants, large stadiums, airports, ports, roads, highways, bridges and other engineering structures, hospitals, schools, urban renewal, fiber optics, 5G… The catalyst has been the organization of major international sporting events. These include the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and, above all, the co -hosting of the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal. These two sporting events alone have mobilized 50 billion dirhams (USD 5.4 billion ) in investments. In total, all investments planned over the next five years (desalination plants, airports, railways, stadiums, etc.) amount to some 150 billion dirhams (USD 16.2 billion). Furthermore, the resolutions of the last Council of Ministers, held on October 19, will give a boost to major economic and social projects, with the launch of a new generation of integrated territorial programs, linked to advanced regionalization.
The latest Council of Ministers meeting increased investments in social, health, and education sectors. Consequently, the 2026 Finance Bill was revised, allocating 140 billion dirhams (USD 15.2 billion).primarily to the health and education sectors. This will allow for the construction of new university hospitals, notably in Laayoune and Agadir, the completion of the future Ibn Sina University Hospital in Rabat, and the renovation and upgrading of 90 existing hospitals. The program also includes the construction of several schools, the renovation of existing schools, vocational training centers, faculties, and universities. All these projects combined offer highly promising prospects for the construction, civil engineering, and materials ecosystem. According to David Toledano , president of the Federation of Construction Materials Industries (FIMC), “ the numerous investment projects offer many opportunities for the construction materials ecosystem. Today, we have significant capacity to meet growing demand. For example, in cement, the installed capacity is 31 million tons. If we manage to sell 50% of this capacity, around 15 million tons, the cement industry will see strong growth starting next year ”.
According to Tolédano, today it is not enough to simply have large contracts to win. « We will need several champion companies to carry out even more construction… Certainly, we have many contracts for stadiums, hospitals, roads/highways, ports, airports, railways… But we should accelerate in order to capture public contracts that are going to foreign companies, particularly for the high-speed rail line and desalination plants «, said David Tolédano.
